Archers of Northeast Texas
(AKA: ANTS)
The Archers of Northeast Texas (ANTS) is an exciting opportunity for Girl Scouts in grades 6 through 12 who are interested in developing their archery skills while offering service to younger Girl Scouts by assisting with weekend archery ranges. This is not a Girl Scout Troop activity. The program is held at Camp Whispering Cedars. Archery opportunities are offered throughout the year at different locations.
Participating Girl Scouts will learn how to help Archery Range Masters on the archery range. The following will be taught:
- equipment inspection
- archery range set up/take down procedures
- how to help participants execute range commands
- how to help with shooting technique
- how to facilitate the Girl Scout Junior Archer Patch

Tejas Riders Equestrian Leadership Team
(AKA: Tejas Riders)
The Tejas Riders Equestrian Leadership Program (also known as ‘Tejas Riders’) is offered by Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas and is made up of 100 active Girl Scouts ages 12-18 from across northeast Texas.
The Tejas Riders have performed over 5,000 community service hours assisting the equestrian center in workshops and with building riding skills in others. Team members also serve as role models for younger Girl Scouts. They provide programs for Girl Scout Troops, community outreach programs, and the community-at-large.

Requirements:
The girls must be current members of Girl Scouts of Northeast Texas and be 12 years of age by September 1st of the year in which they apply. Transportation to and from all events is the responsibility of the girl’s parent or guardian. THIS IS NOT A GIRL SCOUT TROOP ACTIVITY. There is no fee for this program, but it does entail commitment from the girl and her parents/guardians.
The following is required by ALL participants:
- Attend 80% of Practices
- Work the required number of days at camp and off-site (days are specified by team)
- Participate in the Cookie Program for the Tejas Riders, either individual or booth sales (minimum of 24 boxes per girl or minimum of four work hours at a Tejas Rider booth sale)
- Must exhibit conduct consistent with the Girl Scout Promise and the Girl Scout Law.
How to Join:
Register by downloading the Tejas Riders Application Form [insert link to form] and email it to Cindy Brownlow at cbrownlow@gsnetx.org by July 1st. Completed applications that meet all the necessary requirements will be entered into a draw and drawn on the dates specified below. Approximately ten (10) qualified applications will be drawn at each date. All applications from the previous draw(s) will be in the draw again. There are roughly 24 spots available for the 2009-2010 membership year.
Draw dates:
- First draw for new Tejas Riders will be July 1st
- Second draw will be August 1st
- Final draw will be September 1st
Please note that all new applicants will be placed on the entry level team- yellow team. Girls will be moved up as spaces become available. Move-up/promotion occurs only once a year.
Team Practice Schedules:
All Tejas Riders practices are held at Camp Bette Perot.
1st Sunday of the month:
Red team 11:30 to 1:30 (at camp by 11:00)
Blue team 1:30 to 3:30 (at camp by 1:00)
3rd Sunday of the month:
Yellow team 11:30 to 1:30 (at camp by 11:00)
Green team 1:30 to 3:30 (at camp by 1:00)
